有谁曾想到过，在世界的一个角落里，竟有如此美丽的景色：山上树林茂盛，栖息者许多的鸟儿。山峰、树林，都映在傍着山的一面明镜里，周围是一圈绿草地，都毫无规律地生长着几棵树，紧紧地围着湖畔。镜子被轻轻一点，点破了，留下满地的微波。偶尔还有鱼儿浮上水面观望一下……

在《猎人笔记》中，作者极力描写那些地主，虽没有写他们怎样的凶恶，怎样的面目狰狞，却还是让我们感受到了，同样让我们为那些人民叹息。在书中，地主佩诺奇金可是作者刻画得最成功的形象，他显出了地主满分/应有的小气，稍有仆人的小错就对他们大加惩处，许多人都应将地主恨之入骨了，又担心农民或仆人会收到佩诺奇金的一份口水“大礼”。但他们无论如何也想不到，佩诺奇金只是对其他仆从说：“去处理一下。”这几个带有侮辱信号的字，难道是可以随便用在人身上吗？
